Looks like 2 pelvic anchors on the left side and one on the right. Would sure like to see more views……

She has such a pronounced lordosis that the main rods had to be stopped up higher because of the sharp bend….Dr Hey knew he couldn’t bend those suckers….the rod integrity would have been compromised. A 1” radius wouldn’t work and would break sooner.

You know that they have “pre bent” rods. Mine were pre bent with kyphotic and lordotic curves in a jig to eliminate a stress in one area…….bending should be done this way over a larger area. Pre-bent rods reduce surgical time…..(important!)

I wonder if Dr. Hey is talking about new technology that is available to all surgeons, or if it's something new he developed and he's the only one using it. PJK is something I worry about, and it's one of many reasons I'm in no big hurry to have surgery. I would likely be fused T10 to sacrum, but I could end up developing PJK and then I'd need another surgery to have the fusion extend up to T4 or so. From what I've heard, they don't have a full understanding of why some people develop PJK. Maybe that's changing.

Dr. Hey (and his brother!) seems to be amazingly innovative. My first thought was that truss thing was kind of ugly/bulky... but if it works, who cares?

I know he has discussed his invention of a u-bar type thing to help avoid PJK. He went to MIT and was an engineering major as I recall. Others may have invented other things also but I think he has one he invented. It will be interesting if he published on this when he has enough cases.
