Hi! I have just signed on to this forum for the first time. I had a first-generation Harrington rod implant for lumbar scoliosis (T10 to L3) at age 12 in Jan. 1980. Now, at age 37, and post-children (three), I have disc degeneration at L3 to L4 (as well as just above the rod) and spondylolisthesis (50% displaced forward) of L5 on S1. I have bilateral spinal stenosis, which I presently feel down my left leg into the foot, which the surgeon wants to decompress surgically--as well as fuse the remaining vertebrae down to the sacrum.
From what I've read, this may need to be done IN ADDITION to revision surgery, but my doctor is not a revision specialist, and he is not addressing this part of the problem. I am concerned that if this aspect of my situation is ignored while further fusion is performed, it would only exacerbate the flatback (as it would normally progress over time, anyway).
I am in MN and only have medical assistance for insurance. Most doctors don't want to take M.A. patients. I need to find a revision surgeon (specialist!) willing to take on a case like mine. Any leads--anywhere?
